We named this the Charleston to show its versatility in small patio or courtyard setting. For winter gardening this model is ideal for indoor use in front of a south facing window. We recommend goldfish, small perch, minnows or tropical fish.
Earth Solutions 'Charleston' Farm In A Box™ is a self contained aquaponics system that relies on aquarium fish to do the work of growing vegetables, fruits and herbs.
Versatility underlies the 'Charleston' design with its practical, all weather design for a patio or courtyard settings. For winter gardening or indoor use, place the system in front of a south facing window.
In a tank this size we do not recommend edible fish, though goldfish, small perch and minnows are fun and easy to raise.
This system includes a 20 gallon fish tank, garden bed, water pump and a simplified, patented ebb and flow drainage system.
For setup, the plant bed fits snugly onto a frame above the tank. The included water pump circulates fish water to the plant beds above, which ebbs and flows on a timer, trickling throughout the system, day and night.
Valves, hoses, timer, pump, rubber lined plant and tank beds, setup instructions and fish/plant care guidelines are included. Gravel recommendations are given with links to sources.
Aquarium fish, rainwater and gravel for beds (suggest: river or granite pebbles, lava stone, permatill or hydroton) are best sourced locally. FAQ's, forum and aquaponic news and articles to be posted here soon.
Note: This model includes a 12" x 32" plant bed with stand for a 20 gallon fish tank (tank included). It includes an Ebb and Flow Trickle Value, Hoses, a 160 GPH Submersible Pump, 15 minute Interval Dual Outlet Timer, Setup Instructions and Casters. The beds are made from FSC Certified Sustainably Harvested Poplar Wood, Birch panels or both. The beds are lined with EPDM Rubber.
The Charleston model weighs 44 pounds; shipping charges based on dimensional weight of 78 pounds.
Fish and grow media will need to be purchased separately at a local pet shop.
